Today I went to an Ace Hardware in Annville, PA. They had one blue box, marked "Gun Screws". It contained several different sizes of screws and appear to be of excellent quality and color. Most were the same length, so I suppose they can be shortened as needed. Of course, the pistol I need 5 screws for is at home in Alabama! :(

Today, I was in Fredrick, PA and found another Ace Hardware. They had two boxes of screws for guns. One was for newer models with hex head screws and the other was for slotted heads. I purchased 10 different sizes, including "plug" screws of the traditional slotted kind. I don't own a gun new enough to have hex screws, thankfully! ;) I will show them to my gunsmith/machinist friend when I get home and get his opinion of them.

Just about every Ace in Arizona has started carrying them.
I bought a boxed assortment from Brownells a few years ago, now I add to those from Aces stock every so often.
Doesn't matter if I need one or not I just grab a few here and there.

I am glad to know that someone else is using them. It seems so much better to me to be able to go into a store and try several screws to get the one you need, rather than ordering though the mail, and hope you get what you need.

We have the same thing in Ohio. What a great service! I just discovered it about a year ago. Now if they would just carry taps.

Thanks for the update!

This weekend I had an occasion to try these screws. A friend bought a rough Colt 1849 Pocket Model (.31 percussion) and needed some screws. One fit but had to be shortened and the other had to have the head turned down just a little to fit in the frame hole. Threads on both were perfect.

A friend here in Selma told me he had found gun screws at Marvin's Hardware, here. Maybe also in your home town?
