General Discussion / Book with Savage 340 info?
« on: April 16, 2019, 06:57:58 PM »
I've long had an interest in the ugly duckling model 340's and their variations.  Surely there are some books out there with info on these!  Does anyone know of books about the 340 or that have info on it?  I'd like to know dates made, number produced, calibers, other models such as Western Field Montgomery Wards, etc.

Savage 219 Single Shot Rifles / Rough 219 .30-30
« on: July 11, 2018, 01:24:26 PM »
The barrel is Utica on a Chicopee frame, looks pretty rough and the forearm is loose... but I know how to fix some of those problems now! :)  I threw out a bid but someone else also is interested.  I hope it isn't anyone here!

Savage 219 Single Shot Rifles / Loose forearm on 219
« on: July 01, 2018, 01:48:10 PM »
I have a 219 in .30-30 that the previous owner must have thought was too difficult to get the forearms on and off so he grown away at the semi-circular lug where the spring latch arm engages.  The result is a forearm that has about 1/2" pf play and comes off way to easily.  I am thinking silver soldering some steel or brass shim stock back on the lug would restore some of the tightness I am looking for but I'll confess that I really don't understand the mechanics of the forearm latch mechanism.  Any advice?

Buy, Sell, Wanted, and Trade... / WTB: 219's and small gauge 220's

OK guys, I'm fighting a recently re-awakened Savage Fever and looking for something to feed the fever!  Now I'll bet some of you long-term collectors have duplicates and extras that you've been thinking of moving to a new home, now might be your time!  I'd especially like a nice .410 or that unloved 16 ga or how about a .22 Hornet, even a .22 K Hornet!
So if you have been thinking about "someday", now might be the time to tempt me with your spares!

Hi! My Name is... / I guess I missed introducing myself

Hi guys, I'm the newest competitor to those good Savage 219's and 220's on Gunbroker et all!  I've been registered here a good while but apparently missed an introduction.  I'm a retired army gun and civil service (Dept of the Army) now spending most of my time in Palm Beach county FL but also a couple of months in central North Carolina.
I collect mostly C&R military arms but have long had an admiration for the Savage single shots.  I once had a 219 with .30-30 and .22 H barrels but it got away from me.
I also compete in Glock GSSF outdoor and indoor matches in my area.  While in the army, I spent a couple of years on rifle teams, imagine being paid to shoot!  I still occasionally complete in Civilian Marksmanship matches with M-1 Garand, Carbine and 1903 Springfield but the targets are harder and harder to distinguish with these 75 year old eyes.
Too bad in one way there isn't a lot of activity on this forum but then again, fewer competitors on Gunbroker and others! :)
