WTB proper forend for Savage 220D .410 shotgun
« on: March 05, 2018, 11:56:11 AM »
I have a very nice condition 220D .410 except that it came without a forend and the only one I have that fiits the .410 barrel tightly is the one on my 219B rifle.  So I'm looking for a decent .410 forend that would work on this gun.

I can email you pics of the forend that is presently on it, which works but leaves an unsightly gap between the barrel and the wood for about 2/3 of the length of the barrel (it is probably a 16/20 forend).   The forend iron that came with that wood works fine on the 220 D action.

I know that several parts dealers offer 220 .410 replacement forends but the one I got form GPC (Numrich's) was the wrong style of barrel/action fastening.

Since the original stock on this 220 is birch and doesn't look bad, birch would be OK, or walnut, which can be finished lighter.

Let me know what you have and if it seems close, I'll email you pics of the one that I have that fits, to see if yours is similar.  Rifle forend wood would also work, since the one from my 219B does.

E-bay #332 123 680 471 looks good, but has no metal.

Found one on Calguns.net, a CA gun-related website.  It's "local"--only a 20 mile drive-- so I could try my forend iron out on it and it fits perfectly both to the iron and to the gun--actually a .410 forend, too, not a rifle forend.  Sometimes you just get lucky.  Now for a very gentle refinish to get a better match with the stock (the forend wood appears to me to be very light walnut, not birch.  The stock is either well-stained birch or light brown walnut, can't tell).

Thanks for the tip on ebay, but that one has a different setup for the forend iron.
