New to Savage 219
« on: February 02, 2018, 03:08:56 PM »
Hi out there...
Found this board while researching the Savage 219. Been a fan of mostly older firearms for a long time, and worked in the firearms industry for 20 years. My search for info on the 219 was spurred from my ownership pleasure in a Savage 24 (.22 Win. Mag / 20 gauge). Love the classy, simple lines and when I learned of the 219, wanted to know more, maybe one day own one.
I'll keep checking the sales listings here and elsewhere towards that end, or if anyone has leads on an early .30-.30 let me know. Maybe other calibers are an option: seen offerings in 22 Hornet, and others. Is there a historical listing anywhere of all the calibers offered?
Stay safe...
JonC

JonC, Welcome to the forum!  I hope you will find some items of interest to you.  The basic calibers for the M219 were .22 Hornet, .25-20 W.C.F., .32-20 W.C.F., and 30-30 W.C.F.   The Hornet and .30-30 are common.  The .25-20 is hard to find, and the .32-20 is VERY RARE!  There are rumors of other calibers, but all I have seen personally have been re chambers.  Example, .22 Hornet to .219 Zipper, or .218 Bee,  .30-30 to .30-40 Krag,  etc.  Beware and check carefully before buying anything except those former four I mention.  On the 220 shotgun, the same action, you will find 12, 16, 20, 28, and .410 gauges, with the 28 being the hardest to find.  There were a few .22 SHOT gauges made during WWII, some 9 MM rimfire chambered barrels, re-chambered to .357.  These two show up for sale once in a while.  Again, thanks for joining and good luck on your search for a .30-30.  Gun Broker is a good place to find one.  Best wishes, Garnett

Thank you Garnett. I appreciate the caliber information, and will keep my eyes out  - got a couple on a GunBroker watchlist, and there's a gun show in Lewiston, Maine pretty soon. Will ask around there. Yea, I'm a "Maine-iac".
Best from the Northlands, and too bad about the Patriots!

JonC, you are in a good location to find these guns.  If you find a .32-20 grab it!  If you find two of them....sell one to me! :)  Seriously, before paying top dollar for any of them, be sure the assembly numbers match.  These numbers are on the barrel in front of the lug, on the top left inside of the receiver, and in the wood under the butt plate.
